Western Australian wineries plan to increase exports sevenfold within five years.
Sarah Dent, chief executive officer of the Wine Industry Association of Western Australian, said the state industry plan was to raise exports from the current 2.7m litres to 18.7m by 2007.
Western Australia currently accounts for around 1% of Australian wine production. But Dent said her state was the fastest growing of all Australian wine regions having increased its vineyard plantings 165% in the four years to financial 2002 compared with the Australian average of 60%.
