Regulatory authorities in South Australia have approved the sale of a controversial alcoholic milk drink Moo Joose.

The drink, with an alcohol content of 5.3% abv is expected to go on sale to licensed liquor outlets within two months.

Produced in Victoria, Moo Joose has been denied regulatory approval by other Australian state and territory authorities because of alarm it might increase underage and binge drinking.

South Australia’s attorney-general Michael Atkinson said Moo Joose marketing would be closely monitored and any target sales to under-age drinkers would attrack “the full weight of the law.”
