The Melbourne-based wine company Cheviot Bridge has acquired the Long Flat brand from Tyrrell’s Vineyards, the two wine companies announced last week. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.


Cheviot Bridge has acquired the brand name and all inventory of Long Flat for global sales and distribution. Included is licensing to use the Tyrrell’s name for 14 months in Australia and three months in export markets.


Bruce Tyrrell said the sale would allow Tyrrell’s to add vineyard holdings and focus on other brands. He said Tyrrell’s would work closely with Cheviot Bridge to assure a smooth transition.


Meanwhile, the privately held Cheviot Bridge, which was started in 2001 by vineyard owners and a group of former Mildara Blass executives, also announced that former Mildara Blass CEO Ray King would become chairman of Cheviot Bridge.


King joins managing director Maurice Dean, export director Peter Perrin and marketing director Hugh Cuthbertson, all former Mildara Blass executives.

Jonathan Spadaro, a former senior sales executive with Southcorp, was also named director of sales for the United States.
