Consultancy group Interbrands has published its list of the top 100 brands in the world by value this week. Here, just-drinks picks out the best performers from the drinks sector.

  • The Coca-Cola Co’s namesake CSD retained top spot for the 11th consecutive year, having grown in value by 2% to US$71.86bn. However, it is facing stiffer competition from technology firms. IBM, Microsoft and Google took the next three places, with Google’s value having risen by 27% in the last 12 months.
  • PepsiCo’s Pepsi was the second highest-ranked drinks brand, having increased by 4% in value to $14.59bn. It dropped one spot however, to take 23rd place.
  • Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Budweiser broke up the soft drinks industry’s hopes of a one-two-three finish, by moving up a spot to 29th. Its value is unchanged however, at $12.25bn.
  • Coca-Cola’s Sprite came fourth out of the drinks brands, achieving 63rd place and entering the rankings for its second year. However, Sprite dropped two places and its value slid by 3% to $5.6bn.
  • Moet & Chandon Champagne managed to climb two spots in the ranking to secure 77th place. It’s value also increased by 9% to $4.38bn.
  • Brown-Forman’s Jack Daniel’s was right behind as the highest ranked spirits brand, retaining its 2010 spot of 78th place. The brand’s value managed a 9% climb to $4.32bn.
  • Corona Extra and Heineken provided the only competition to Budweiser in the top100, albeit in a limited sense. Both brands grew in value in the last year but Corona Extra dropped one spot to 86th place with a value of $3.92bn, while Heineken climbed two spots to 91st place on $3.81bn.
