Penfolds Evermore, launched in 2023 as Penfolds’ first brand-led community and sustainability platform, has established itself as a significant initiative for social responsibility and sustainable development within the global wine sector. Evermore operates across Australia, China, France, and the USA, delivering activities under three strategic pillars: Community and Culture, Future Winemaking, and Toward Sustainability.

The platform’s approach to social engagement and environmental stewardship has been recognized with the Social Award for Sustainable Development, in the 2025 Just Drinks Excellence Awards, reflecting its demonstrated commitment to creating value for communities, the industry, and the environment.

The Just Drinks Excellence Awards honor the most significant achievements and innovations in the beverages industry. Powered by GlobalData’s business intelligence, the Awards recognize the people and companies leading change and shaping the future of the industry.

Strategic grant programs supporting sustainable development

Penfolds grant Mobius Farms

A key element of the Evermore programs approach is its grant programs, which provide financial support to local organizations focused on community as well as winemaking and viticulture. In 2024, the inaugural Australian grant program distributed $200,000 among four projects, including the Barossa Farmers Market Kitchen Library, which promotes food sustainability and security, and Mobius Farms, which is developing circular solutions for winemaking by transforming grape waste into agricultural inputs. These initiatives address both immediate community needs and longer-term sustainability objectives.

Penfolds Evermore has expanded its grant program to France, offering €120,000 to support projects that advance community engagement and sustainable viticulture. This international expansion demonstrates the brand’s commitment to supporting positive change in every region where it operates.

Supporting communities and promoting social equity

Penfolds Evermore activities extend to social initiatives that support community welfare and inclusion. In the USA, the brand has participated in charity auctions, directing funds to local organisations such as MUST Charities. In Australia, Penfolds has supported gender equality and women’s participation in the wine industry, including sponsorship of the Australian Women in Wine Gala Dinner and involvement in International Women’s Day events, with proceeds benefiting organisations supporting women experiencing homelessness.

Penfolds' support for A Fitting Connection project

The platform’s support for projects like A Fitting Connection—which transforms textile waste into sustainable fabrics and empowers individuals with disabilities—demonstrates a commitment to inclusion and social innovation. These efforts support equity, opportunity, and community well-being across the regions in which Penfolds operates.

Investing in education, research, and the future of winemaking

Penfolds Evermore has made significant investments in education and research to address challenges related to climate change and evolving industry needs. The brand funds PhD candidates at the University of Adelaide, supporting research into climate-resilient grape varietals and vine health optimization. These initiatives contribute to the industry’s ability to adapt to changing conditions.

Penfolds China Agri University partnership

The platform has also established partnerships with educational institutions such as China Agricultural University and Florida International University, providing scholarships, hands-on learning experiences, and internships for aspiring winemakers and viticulturalists. By supporting the development of future talent and fostering global collaboration, Penfolds Evermore is contributing to the ongoing vitality and sustainability of the wine industry.

Fostering biodiversity, food security, and climate action

Penfolds Evermore’s sustainability initiatives are implemented through practical projects funded under the grant program. The Plantingseeds Project’s B&B Highway and Mobius Farms’ circular waste solutions support biodiversity, ecosystem health, and sustainable agriculture. The Barossa Farmers Market Kitchen Library educates local communities on food seasonality, promoting food security and sustainable consumption.

The platform’s approach to climate change includes funding research into alternative varietals and sustainable vineyard practices, demonstrating a focus on environmental stewardship in winemaking. These initiatives contribute to responsible industry practices and address the environmental impacts associated with wine production.

‘We are grateful to receive this award and acknowledgement of our program. Over the past year, we’ve put real energy and focus into growing the Evermore program, and it’s been exciting to see the impact we are having on the people, places, and communities where we make wine. With a global focus and guided by three core pillars, Evermore supports local changemakers, invests in training and development for our industry and supports environmental improvements. The program continues to grow with momentum, and we’re excited by the journey we are on.’
