A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11869738B2) discloses an operating device for light sources that includes a conducting track fuse connected to a printed circuit board. The conducting track fuse comprises a burn-out region between two connection regions, covered by a unique covering element with side walls and a delimiting wall. The design ensures the covering face of the element covers the burn-out region, with a cavity formed between the burn-out region and the covering face. Additionally, a gas vent is included in the covering element, and the second connection region extends through it.

Furthermore, the patent details specific characteristics of the operating device, such as the zigzag-shaped profile of the burn-out region, the parallel arrangement of the side walls to the burn-out region, and the reduced cross-section of the burn-out region compared to the connection regions. The covering element is described to have a constant wall thickness and includes a supporting web across the gas vent. The connecting element, which attaches the side walls of the covering element to the printed circuit board, is highlighted to be a non-conductive material like SMD adhesive or solder resist. The patent also mentions the application of the connecting element using a template and the orientation of the gas vent in a direction opposite the terminal of the external power supply.
