The patent application (Publication Number: US20230396081A1) describes a series-type charging and discharging apparatus that eliminates current interruption by utilizing a bi-directional main charging and discharging power supply. This apparatus allows for the continuous charging and discharging of a series of secondary batteries according to a predetermined recipe without any interruptions in the current flow. To address capacity differences between the batteries, auxiliary charging power supplies are installed in parallel to individual batteries, compensating for any variations in capacity. These auxiliary charging power supplies are configured as insulated unidirectional switch mode DC-to-DC converters, using a power source from a DC grid or separate DC and AC power inputs to adjust the voltage and current of each battery.

During the charging process, the main charging and discharging power supply follows a constant current charging section based on the battery with the smallest capacity, transitioning to a constant voltage charging section where the auxiliary charging power supply controls the charging current according to the predetermined recipe. Similarly, during discharging, the main power supply discharges at a constant current based on the battery with the largest capacity, while the auxiliary power supply ensures a continuous current flow for batteries with smaller capacities. This innovative apparatus aims to streamline the charging and discharging process for series-connected batteries, ensuring efficient and uninterrupted power management.
