A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11910778B2) discloses an absorbent pad designed with specific features to enhance liquid absorption capabilities. The pad comprises a liquid permeable layer, a liquid impermeable layer, and a liquid absorbent layer with a first absorption region and a second absorption region. The second absorption region, surrounding the first, is engineered to absorb more liquid per unit area and contains a superabsorbent polymer. When dry, both regions are coplanar, but upon liquid application, the second region expands to create a raised area while the first region becomes recessed. The superabsorbent polymer in both regions exhibits a retention absorbency of 30 g/g to 45 g/g in a 0.9% NaCl aqueous solution, ensuring efficient liquid absorption.

Furthermore, the superabsorbent polymer in the absorbent pad demonstrates an absorption capacity of 55 g/g to 65 g/g, an absorptive rate of 15 to 40 seconds to absorb specific volumes of liquid, a moisture content of 4% to 9%, a bulk density of 0.60 g/ml to 0.85 g/ml, and particle sizes ranging from less than 850 microns to 180 microns to 500 microns for 80% to 90% of the particles. These characteristics contribute to the overall effectiveness of the absorbent pad in rapidly absorbing and retaining liquid, making it suitable for various applications requiring high-performance absorbency.
