A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11908213B2) describes a system for digitizing and extracting information from a sheet of material. The system includes a sheet of material with fiducial marks and indicators, along with a device equipped with a processor, communication circuitry, memory, and an optical sensor. The processor is designed to scan the sheet, detect boundaries using fiducial marks, identify designated subregions based on marked indicators, and extract information from these subregions. Additionally, the system can detect multiple sequentially marked indicators and extract information from corresponding subregions as a single image.

Furthermore, the patent details a notebook comprising scannable pages with fiducial marks, subregions, and indicators aligned along the length of each page. The fiducial marks contain machine-readable data matrices with encoded data for identifying information associated with the notebook. The system allows for the extraction of information such as stock keeping units, orientation, dimensions, margins, indicator types, and locations. The indicators, designed as fillable shapes, can be partially filled by users for detection. The processor can also generate study aids based on extracted information, store them in memory, and communicate with remote servers for further processing.
