The top five companies accounted for 21% of patenting activity

Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Nestle filed the most plant-based diets patents within the consumer industry in Q2 2023. The company filed 14 plant-based diets-related patents in the quarter, compared with 15 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Dalian University of Technology with 5 plant-based diets patent filings, Kangnam University (4 filings), and Coca-Cola (2 filings) in Q2 2023.

Patenting activity was driven by China with a 49% share of total patent filings

The largest share of plant-based diets related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q2 2023 was in China with 49%, followed by the US (13%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by China was 13% higher than the 37% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
