The top five companies accounted for 38% of patenting activity

Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Strong Force Iot Portfolio 2016 filed the most ecommerce patents within the consumer industry in Q2 2023. The company filed 9 ecommerce-related patents in the quarter, compared with 4 in the previous quarter. It was followed by L'Oreal with 4 ecommerce patent filings, Rakuten Group (3 filings), and ASICS (3 filings) in Q2 2023.

Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 57% share of total patent filings

The largest share of ecommerce related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q2 2023 was in the US with 57%, followed by Japan (13%) and China (7%). The share represented by the US was 13% higher than the 44% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
