Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 17%, emerged as the top internet of things-related job roles within the consumer industry in Q3 2023, with new job postings drop by 43% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 14% in Q3 2023, with new job postings dropping by 40% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent internet of things roles include Sales and Related Occupations with an 8% share in Q3 2023, Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in consumer industry accounted for 62% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2023 were Signify, Sleep Number, General Mills, Philip Morris International, and iRobot. Together they accounted for a combined share of 62% of all internet of things-related new jobs in the consumer industry.

Signify posted 362 internet of things-related new jobs in Q3 2023, Sleep Number 79 jobs, General Mills 39 jobs, Philip Morris International 27 jobs, and iRobot 27 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 31.87% share of total new job postings, Q3 2023

The largest share of internet of things-related new job postings in the consumer industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 31.87% followed by India (11.09%) and Germany (6.58%). The share represented by the US was one percentage point lower than the 32.46% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
