Gilbert Ghostine is responsible for all business decisions across the 16 markets in the Asia Pacific region and has been a member of the Diageo executive committee since 2008. In his time with Diageo so far, Ghostine has overseen more than 100 markets stretching across Europe, Asia Pacific, Asia and North America.
- From 2005 until his move to Singapore in August 2009, Ghostine initially ran the Diageo Northern European business, before having his remit extended to cover all of Continental Europe.
- The role in Europe was preceded by three years in Chicago, during which he held the positions of president, Central IMC and president of US major markets and national accounts.
- His first position in Diageo, following the United Distillers/IDV merger in 1998, was head of the Dubai hub, covering Africa, Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe and the Canary Islands. This followed a role as general manager of IDV in the Middle East and North Africa.
- Ghostine entered the drinks industry in 1993 in Beirut, Lebanon, where he was born in 1960, when he joined IDV’s local distributor as marketing director, before progressing to the role of general manager for Middle East and North Africa.
- He also spent six years, between 1986 and 1992, overseeing various construction projects in the private and public sectors in Africa and France.
- Born in 1960, Gilbert married Roula in 1986 and the couple have two children; Marc and Maria. Gilbert obtained a masters degree in Business Administration from the Saint Joseph University in Beirut in 1985 and is trilingual in Arabic, French and English.
