Zagorka has sold its malt plant. The Bulgarian brewer, in which both Heineken and Coca-Cola HBC hold stakes, said yesterday (8 September) that the sale, to Bulgarian Bulmat Ltd. for €1.35m (US$1.7m) is in keeping with its strategy to focus on its core beer business.

The facility, which has an annual production capacity of 15,000 tons of malt, will remain in operation with the 36 staff keeping their jobs.

"The sale of the malt plant in Chirpan is part of the strategy, which Zagorka is pursuing in the years after its privatisation and which focuses on the core business of the company," Zagorka's general manager Dimitar Alexiev told SeeNews.

In 1994, Heineken and Coca-Cola HBC bought a majority stake in the Bulgarian brewer.
