The inaugural World Whiskies Conference is to be held in Edinburgh's International Conference Centre on 20-21 April 2006. The conference aims to provide a forum for the global whisk(e)y distilling industry looking at business issues related to all whisk(e)y makers.

In a statement, conference director Ian Buxton said: "The World Whiskies Conference recognises the common challenges and opportunities faced by the worldwide whisk(e)y distilling industry. The World Whiskies Conference is broad in its cross-functional appeal and highly relevant and focused on this leading spirits category."

Delegates to the two-day event will hear presentations from industry leaders; key suppliers; leading retailers; analysts and market researchers, providing insight into the business issues surrounding the sales and marketing of whisk(e)y in the global marketplace.

The World Whiskies Conference is supported by the Kentucky Distillers Association; the Association of Canadian Distillers; the All India Distillers Association and the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

The conference's advisory panel includes representatives from Scotland, the US, Thailand and Japan. Leading company executives have served on the panel to help shape the programme structure and content, including representatives from Chivas Brothers, John Dewar & Sons, Brown-Forman and Suntory.

The conference is sponsored by, among others, just-drinks.com. More information can be found at www.whiskyconference.com.
