Wines of the Beautiful South will return in 2016

Wines of the Beautiful South, the triple-region UK wine tasting event, saw its visitor numbers rise by 7.3% on the previous year and will return in 2016 after a year off, organisers have said.

The two-day event, which took place at London's Olympia last week, had 1,223 visitors across the entire show. Around 250 producers from South Africa, Argentina and Chile exhibited at the tasting, which launched last year.

The number of visitors who attended both days was also up, by 48%.

"We listened to the feedback from the inaugural show and made improvements that we feel will continue to ensure quality visitors and a tasting that meets the needs of the trade in the UK and beyond,” an event spokesperson said.

The event will not take place next year, as trade association Wines of South Africa will be focussing on its biennial Cape Wine event, which is held in Cape Town. However, organisers said Wines of the Beautiful South will take place in 2016.

Trade bodies Wines of Chile and Wines of Argentina are instead looking to host a joint tasting event in London next year, the organisers said. The three bodies are also looking to collaborate at the 2015 London Wine Fair.
