Wines of Germany has joined with the EU to create a website designed to increase awareness of Riesling wines among US consumers.

The site, www.destinationriesling.com, is part of a three-year marketing campaign, Wine of Germany announced yesterday (3 November).

It said the campaign would also include consumer marketing and trade elements, such as restaurant promotions, tastings, seminars, press and sommelier trips.

The website features news and events associated with European Riesling, and a photo and video gallery of educational Riesling videos.

"We are excited to use this site as a way to educate consumers about Riesling, which is currently the fastest growing white varietal by sales in the US" said Monika Reule, managing director of the German Wine Institute in Mainz, Germany.

"Thanks to the long traditions of winemaking in Europe, a young generation of talented producers and a cool climate, European, and particularly German Riesling, is the benchmark for Riesling around the globe. We feel it is crucial to communicate this message to wine lovers in the US."
