Chilean industry association Wines of Chile is to open an office in New York this year, with the aim of tripling exports to the US by 2006.
The association will invest US$1m setting up the office and in marketing initiatives, with the aim of replicating the success of its London office.
Chilean wine currently accounts for just 1% of the US wine market, equivalent to around US$130m per year in export earnings for Chilean wineries.
Rory Callahan, who will run the new office, is planning to focus on promoting wines in the US$10-20 range.
