The Australian wine industry experienced and encouraging February, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for domestic sales of Australian wine was 35.1 million litres in February 2004, an increase of 5.7% on January 2004 and 5.9% on February 2003.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for domestic sales of white table wine increased 3.3% on January 2004 and 6.3% on February 2003.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for domestic sales of red and rosé table wine increased 5.3% on January 2004 and 5.1% on February 2003.

In original terms, 46.8 million litres of Australian produced wine valued at A$189.4m were exported in February 2004, an increase of 22.4% in quantity and 20.5% in value on January 2004.

The average value of Australian wine exported in February 2004 was A$4.04 per litre, down from A$4.73 per litre in February 2003.
