Exports reached EUR4.31bn (US$5.87bn) for the six months to the end of June, while volumes rose by 2% on the same period of 2010, to almost 91m cases. Still and sparkling wine exports totaled almost EUR3bn, up 14.4%, but volume growth was limited to 2.3%.

Spirits exports rose by 8.4% in value and 2.2% in volume. "These half-year figures figures highlight a generally buoyant picture for exports in value terms, but especially for Bordeaux, Champagne, Burgundy and Cognac," a FEVS spokesman told just-drinks today (13 September). "Asia, China, Singapore and Hong Kong, in particular, are generating very strong demand."

However, he added: "For French wine ans spirits exports globally, there was a slight slowdown in June and July."
