Californian wine industry body the Wine Institute has appointed Linsey Simpson Gallagher as director of international marketing.

Gallagher, who joins the trade body on 10 November, succeeds Joseph Rollo who is to continue within the organisation in the new role of director of international trade policy.

"California wine exports have grown to nearly US$1bn in annual sales and our international program has increased in complexity and importance to require two separate roles - marketing and trade policy," said president and CEO Robert Koch.

Most recently vice president of her family's East Coast real estate firm, Gallagher has gained wine industry experience as marketing manager for E&J Gallo Winery, responsible for marketing strategy for Australian (Black Swan) and Italian (Bella Sera) imports.

In her new position, she will be responsible for overseeing the organisation's marketing programmes in around 20 countries.
