Australia is to make an industry level push to increase wine sales to Japan with the appointment of a new manager to run the Australian Wine Export Council's Tokyo office.

Benjamin Holt has a marketing background and is fluent in Japanese and Korean. He takes over from the inaugural manager Yasushi Kimura

The appointment reflects growing awareness within the industry that Australia's continuing export wine boom, now worth A$2 billion (US$1.1 billion) year is almost totally reliant on English speaking markets, 82% of the total.

At A$30 million, Japan, although eighth ranking in the export league, accounts for only 2% of the total.
