Argentine wine exports in 2003 were the best ever, according to figures released last week. Daily newspaper El Cronista reported on Friday that exports of wine and grape juice in 2004 reached US$224.9m, an increase year-on-year of 23.5%. The previous record was set in 1997, when exports hit $216m.

According to preliminary figures released by the National Wine Institute, in 2003 Argentina exported 185.2m litres of wine with a value of $169.1m, a leap of 50%.

Last year, Argentina exported an additional 80.3m litres of its fine wines valued at $139.2m, an increase in volume of 40% and a 37% rise in value on 2002.
