Wine exports from Chile for the 12 months to April 2004 leapt by 15%, according to figures released earlier this week. The country's wine exporters' association Vinas de Chile, has said that exports from May 2003 to April 2004 totalled US$703.6m, based on a 12.8% rise in volume to 411.7m litres.

Bottled wine exports rose in sales by 12.4% to $596.8m, and in volume by 4.7% to 25.05m nine-litre boxes. The average price of bottled wine increased by 7.4% for the period to $23.82 per box.

Bottled wine exports specifically for Europe in the 12 months rose in volume by 13.8% and in value by 18.3%.

Vinas de Chile expects the price of Chilean wines to continue increasing this year, as the average price of Chilean exported products increased by 2.5% year-on-year from January to April 2004.
