According to data published by the agricultural research group, ISMEA, Italian wine exports fell by 6.6% in 2002 to €2.75 billion (US$3.084 billion).

According to ISMEA's figures, Italy exported some 15.6m hectolitres of wine in 2002. Bottled wine exports fell by 1% to 8.7m hls. However, exports of sparkling wine were shown to have risen by 9%. Total exports of DOC and DOCG wines reached 4.5m hls.

Wine exports to Germany, Italy's largest export market, fell by 2.9%, while exports to the US rose by 12%, ISMEA said.
