Wine Australia's UK head steps down

Lisa McGovern, the UK, Ireland and European Union director for Australia's wine trade body, has resigned.

The Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation (AWBC), which confirmed McGovern's departure from Wine Australia yesterday (7 September), said that she will leave the organisation next month. However, it said that “due to some extenuating circumstances she may not be available to cover her notice period”.

When contacted by just-drinks today, a spokesperson for the trade body declined to comment further, saying only that “it was Lisa's decision and taken with her usual level of professionalism and consultation”.

No details were forthcoming about where she is moving to.

McGovern assumed the position in March last year, having previously worked for South Africa's Graham Beck Wines, and as UK marketing manager for Wine Institute of New Zealand from 1993 to 1999.

Consequently, the regional manager for Ireland, John McDonnell, will support the UK office for two days a week in London until further notice, while recruitment for a permanent replacement is being conducted.
