Winderlea Wine Company has announced the purchase of Goldschmidt Vineyard, including 20 acres on the Red Hills Bench, Oregon.

The co-founders of the recently-formed company, Donna Morris and Bill Sweat, said yesterday (30 November) that the Goldschmidt Vineyard is the ideal property from which to launch their winery.

"We're excited about the possibilities our vineyard holds for luxury wines," Sweat said. "We have spent the past 14 months walking thousands of acres of vineyards and tasting hundreds of wines from those vineyards to find the site we believe will produce the elegant, sensuous and balanced wines we want to create."

The vineyard, which consists of 13 blocks of Pinot Noir, was planted in 1974 and has elevations of 480 to 570 feet.

Winderlea, which was formed last year, said its 2006 inaugural vintage is now due for release in the first half of 2008.
