The firm said today that Neil Barker would take over from Andrew Clifton, who has moved to join the firm's travel retail unit as regional director for Europe & North America. A spokesperson for the company told just-drinks that Barker has already assumed the position.

Barker has held commercial director positions at Birds Eye Foods, General Mills, Fosters Group's Wine Estates and Southcorp Wines, both in the UK and Australia.

"Neil's expertise from both within our industry, and further afield, position him perfectly to bring new ideas and practices to our business," said Rita Greenwood, MD for William Grant & Sons UK and Ireland. "At William Grant & Sons UK we have committed to an ambitious growth strategy and I am confident that Neil will drive his team forward to achieve great things in 2017, and the future."

Last month, William Grant & Sons followed its purchase of the Hudson US craft whiskey brand seven years ago with the acquisition of Tuthilltown Spirits, the company that produces the liquid.
