William Grant & Sons' latest iteration of its Tullamore Dew brand aims to bring new innovation to the Irish whiskey category by combining it with rum. Tullamore Dew XO Caribbean Rum Cask is finished in first fill XO Caribbean rum casks, a process that William Grant says gives it layers of "sweetness and tropical notes".
The company said the whisky was the result of "one of many trials" carried out on Tullamore Dew, as it looks to experiment with the brand that with the brand it bought in 2010.
The 43%-abv whiskey launched in Dublin airport this week and will initially only be available in the Global Travel Retail channel. At a launch event on Tuesday, the company said that Tullamore Dew XO will eventually roll out to domestic markets, priced at a 30% premium to the original Tullamore expression.
This week, William Grant also launched Glenfiddich Cask Collection Finest Solera, released in collaboration with crystal glassware manufacturer Baccarat. It is available exclusively in Global Travel Retail with a recommended retail price of GBP1,950 (US$2,630).
