UK regional brewing and pub group Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries has claimed it has increased its share of the country's premium ale market.

W&DB, which produces ales including Marston's Pedigree, said trading during the 51 weeks to 23 September where "in line with our expectations".

The company, which also owns 2,355 pubs in the UK, said the hot summer weather and the football World Cup had boosted pub sales.

However, the company said it remained "cautious" about the year ahead due to higher energy prices, consumer debt and pressure on interest rates hitting consumer spending.

W&DB is due to release its full-year figures on 1 December.
