Drinks wholesaler WaverleyTBS plans to cut 65 jobs in the UK by restructuring its sales force.

The company said today (12 August) it plans to restructure both its independent free trade and national account sales teams in order to "reflect the changing shape of the market" and better support its customers.

WaverleyTBS, based on the outskirts of London but with offices across the UK, employs around 3,100 people.

The proposals have been made as part of an ongoing review of the business and will involve moving the company's commercial strategy toward a "category-led" approach.

The company said it hopes the situation can be mitigated through voluntary means or redeployment.

"WaverleyTBS, like many businesses, has been affected by the economic climate and the downturn in the on trade specifically," said Jonathan Townsend, WTBS commercial director. "We have reviewed our commercial strategy to ensure the long-term competitiveness and success of our business."

The company said it will enter into a consultation period with affected employees from today.
