UK producer Water Works has launched a cactus water and watermelon water as it enters the natural hydration segment.

Both products are no-added sugar and positioned as healthier alternatives to sugary soft drinks and sports drinks. Water Works said the launches are inspired by the rise in alternative waters.

The watermelon is 100% juice, while the cactus water uses 30% not-from-concentrate prickly pear juice.

The products are among the first from Water Works, which also produces a maple water. Company co-founder Ashil Vaghela said his priority for 2017 is to secure an important retail listing in the UK.

"Thanks to the category building efforts that have been made by our friends over at What a Melon and True Nopal, we are confident that buyers will soon be amenable to the idea of listing us alongside our peers," Vaghela said.

In May, Suntory Holdings' international unit set up a global distribution joint venture for cactus water True Nopal. True Nopal founder Tom Zummo said the new agreement will help boost the cactus water's international expansion.
