John Kelly will lead Walsh Whiskey's sales and marketing efforts

Irish whiskey producer Walsh Whiskey has appointed John Kelly to the newly-created role of commercial director.

The group said earlier today that Kelly will lead its sales and marketing functions. He has previously worked for Diageo in a number of senior positions in the Irish, Global Travel Retail and Middle-Eastern business units.

"This is a key appointment and role in the development of our company," said founder & MD Bernard Walsh. "We are delighted to have attracted and secured someone of John's experience and stature within the drinks sector. John's extensive international network and experience is already proving to be invaluable."

The company's portfolio, which includes The Irishman and Writers' Tears, is available in 45 countries. Kelly will also be tasked with establishing new markets.

In September, Walsh Whiskey released two limited edition expressions under The Irishman brand. Both new whiskeys were finished in Marsala wine casks, from Sicily's Florio winery, which is owned by the company's partner, Illva Saronno.
