Poland's privatisation drive, which includes the country's vodka industry, is under threat after members of the country's parliament proposed a vote of no confidence in Treasury Minister Aldona Kamela-Sowinska on Thursday.

According to local reports the move has been backed by around 100 left-wing and right-populist members and could delay several major state asset sell-offs.

According to Reuters, the proposal to oust Kamela-Sowinska confirmed the weakness of the right-wing minority government, led by the fractured Solidarity bloc (AWS), ahead of a September general election which polls show will be won by the ex-communist opposition.

The vote of no confidence could be extremely close, reports suggest, as traditional support for the government may not be enough to save the minister.

If Kamela-Sowinska were to go it would rock the privatisation drive which seeks to raise billions of dollars for the cash-strapped state by selling off industries such as vodka.
