The co-founder of Vitaminwater has made a "significant" investment in US drinks firm Bodyarmor.

Mike Repole, who was president of Vitaminwater before its sale to The Coca-Cola Co in 2007, has taken a key stake in the company, Bodyarmor said today (18 January). Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Bodyarmor is owned by Lance Collins, founder of Fuze Beverage and Nos Energy, both of which were also acquired by Coca-Cola in 2007. The "all natural multifunctional" drinks range is available in four variants and two ice teas.

As part of the deal, Repole will take a seat on the Bodyarmor board as non-executive chairman.

"I have known Mike since 1993, and from 2001 until 2007 we were industry rivals, but always remained friends," said Collins. "To have Mike's brand-building expertise on my side to grow the Bodyarmor brand is an incredible opportunity."

Repole is chairman and the largest shareholder of both Pirate's Booty snacks and US fast food chain Energy Kitchen.
