Vintage Wine Estates has agreed a deal to acquire fellow California-based producer Canopy Management Wine Co for an undisclosed sum.

In a statement this week, the companies said the deal will become effective on 1 July. Under the new entity, Nancy Walker, part of Vintage Wine Estates’ winemaking team, will take over all sourcing and vintner duties for the Canopy portfolio.

Napa Valley-based Canopy’s brands include Middle Sister, Monogamy, PromisQous, Purple Cowboy, Wine Sisterhood, Deep Purple, Girl & Dragon and Lady La Femme.

"Canopy's powerhouse lifestyle brands, sales, marketing and social media expertise and strong retail partner and distributor relationships add tremendous value to our portfolio,” said Pat Roney, Vintage Wine Estates’ president.

It is the third acquisition in the space of a year by Santa-Rosa based Vintage, which last year bought Napa's Clos Pegase and Viansa Winery in Sonoma
