Vinexpo is planning to launch a consumer wine show in the US in 2012 in an attempt to help producers engage directly with those who drink their wines.

The show, to be called 'Rendez-Vous by Vinexpo', will be held in New York from 16 to 18 November next year. It is the first time that the organisers of Vinexpo, which is the world's largest wine trade show, have sought to get businesses and consumers under one roof.

Vinexpo has partnered with Wine Spectator magazine publisher M Shanken Communications and Chocolate Show New York for the Rendez-Vous show. The US is forecast to drink 3.8bn bottles of wine in 2012, making it the world's biggest wine market, ahead of Italy and France, according to Vinexpo.

Vinexpo CEO Robert Beynat said yesterday (7 November): "By combining our respective areas of expertise, Rendez-Vous by Vinexpo will become the benchmark annual event in New York for consumers and all the players in the wine and spirits industry.”
