Villa Maria Estate, the New Zealand wine producer, has opened the doors to its new multi-million dollar winery and vineyard park in Mangere, Auckland.  Prime Minister Helen Clark headed an assembly of local politicians and senior members of the international wine industry to officially open the complex.

The official opening comes as construction of the first stage of the winery and vineyard park is complete.

The new Montgomerie Road site forms part of the Ihumatao peninsula and is only five kilometres from the old Kirkbride Road winery.  It is now the base for all of Villa Maria Estate's Auckland staff.  The complex includes a warehouse, bottling hall, winery cellar, administration block, function and Cellar Door Shop, along with twenty hectares of grape vines.  The final stage of the winery and vineyard park includes plans for a restaurant, conference centre and vineyard accommodation.

The new winery was designed by architect Hamish Cameron of ArchMedia, who has already won an award for the building.
