Vermont Pure Holdings has posted a rise in sales for the second quarter of 2006, with single serve coffee supporting ongoing water cooler growth.

The company yesterday (1 June) reported a 3% sales increase to US$15.2m, while gross profit was up by 2% in the quarter to reach $8.8m. Net income more than doubled, to $475,000 from $205,000 in the same period a year ago.

Year-to-date sales for 2006 were up 4% to $29.9m from $28.7m for the comparable period a year ago.

"Sales of other products, most notably single serve coffee, have supplemented our water sales and cooler rent fueling our sales growth for the first half of the year," said Vermont CEO Peter Baker.

"The increase in sales, combined with a decrease in operating expenses resulted in net income more than doubling for the second quarter and year to date."
