The New York and Washington legs of the first Wines of South Africa (WOSA) World Wine Tour, due for early next week have been cancelled following the terrorist attacks on those two cities.

WOSA communications manager, André Morgenthal said last night that the entire South African wine industry was shocked at what had happened in those cities.

A group of 35 winemakers were due to fly out of Cape Town on Friday for a seven stop, six nation tasting which would take them to North America, Europe and the UK.

"The tour was due to start at the New York Palace on Monday 17 September and two days later be repeated at the Old Elbitt Grill in Washington.

"In the light of events there the group obviously would not consider doing anything, even if they could get flights to the USA.

"We will assess the situation to see whether we can organise flights to Canada next week."
