UB Group has said a protest against the building of a brewery in India will not halt the INR2bn (US$36.6m) project, according to a local report.

Farmers clashed with workers constructing a wall at the site in Kopakalan village in Naubatpur yesterday (8 April), The Telegraph reported. Police reportedly used tear gas and sticks to remove protesters.

A UB official was quoted as saying: “The settlement process of the remaining land is on. It should be completed within ten days. There is no question of pulling away from the project.”

According to the report, UB Group won a court ruling to use the land after agreeing to pay local farmers. The brewery is due to be completed this year, the report said.
