Tsingtao has begun production at its brewery in Taiwan, according to press reports. The central bank-backed Financial News reported today (23 June) that the Chinese brewer has teamed up with Taiwanese drink manufacturer Sanyo Whisbih Group on the venture.

The new plant is expected to produce around 100,000 tons of beer per year. The report added that the facility will be running at half capacity initially.

Tsingtao is hoping to grab a quarter of Taiwan's beer market in the short term, the report continued.

The move is part of Tsingtao's plans to brew beer outside of its domestic Chinese market. The company said last year that it intended to produce Tsingtao Beer abroad for sale in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore as well as in Taiwan.
