Tsingtao Brewery Co. Ltd has secured a marketing branch in Thailand, according to reports. Xinhua's China Economic Information Service said yesterday (4 July) that the Chinese brewer has signed a contract which will see the company open the unit in Bangkok.

Tsingtao will export its brand, technology and production standards to the Asian country, the company's president, Jin Zhiguo said yesterday. The new unit, Tsingtao Thailand Marketing Co. Ltd, will have a registered capital of THB15m (US$362,000) with 30% of this coming from Tsingtao and the remaining coming from Thailand, the service said.

Jin told the news service that this is a "market first and factory second" approach to developing overseas markets for the Chinese company.

Last month, Tsingtao began production at a new brewery in Taiwan as part of its plans to move into south-east Asian countries.
