Accolade Wines has created the Asia regional MD position for Peter Dixon

Peter Dixon will be Accolade's regional MD for Asia starting from 25 March, the Australia-based group said this week. The position is new.

Dixon joins Accolade from Treasury Wine Estates, where he was MD for North Asia, covering the important Greater China area that has seen fast-growing demand for imported wines, especially from Australia. Dixon spent 11 years with TWE in a variety of China roles. With Accolade, he will continue to be based in Shanghai.

TWE said that its COO for Asia, Tom King, will replace Dixon and take responsibility for TWE's business in the North Asian market. King joined the TWE Asia leadership team last year after previous roles with the company as MD of Europe & Global Travel Retail.

Commenting on King's appointment, a TWE spokesperson said: "The fundamentals of the TWE business in Asia remain unchanged, the company has a strong leadership team in place, and remains committed to its growth plans with its partners."

According to GlobalData figures, per capita consumption of wine in China stood at 1.6 litres in 2017 and is expected to reach 2.5 litres by 2022. Despite the expected growth, consumption is still short of the global average, giving wineries a huge opportunity over the next few years.
