Three key executives from KWV Limited have taken early retirement following a board decision to reconfigure the senior management structure of the group.

This comes hot on the heels of the resignation of another senior director, Vernon Davis, MD of KWV International, who departed suddenly at the beginning of March to take up a post at rival wine company Winecorp.

Group director finance, Nico Kotzé (51), who had 22 years service, group director trade policy, Willie de Klerk (50), with 21 years service and group director human resources, Elna Mouton (51), with nine years service all departed immediately, taking leave until their retirement starts officially on 1 July 2004.

All who remain of the old top structure at KWV Limited are MD, Dr Willem Barnard and Willem Bestbier, MD of subsidiary, KWV South Africa.

KWV Limited chairman, Danie de Wet, late yesterday said that since he took over in January this year, he had worked at creating a more streamlined, decentralised management structure.

"We discussed with the three executives, repositioning them within the new streamlined group, but they decided to exercise their options of taking early retirement. I regret that they did so, because of the vast experience they have, as well as the work they had done for the group over many years," said de Wet.
