Australian wine company Yarra on Syme is rolling out its Thousand Candles brand to the UK.

The 13% abv 2011 and 2012 vintage, a blend of Syrah, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, is due to be released in selected on-trade and “premium specialist retailers” in October, the Victoria-based company said this week. The brand, launched last year, is currently available in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Norway, Malaysia and Japan.

The recommended retail price for the UK market will be GBP65 (US$100) per 750ml bottle.

“The wine has been launched to bring about a change in perceptions of what fine Australian wine can be. It brings together some of the finest minds in the industry to introduce a wine that challenges style and varietal constraints," a spokeperson for Alliance Wine, Thousand Candles' UK distributor, told just-drinks.

“In a mature, somewhat jaded market for Australian wine, Thousand Candles provides some much needed momentum, controversy and style.”

Yarra on Syme's sales and marketing chief is Paul Henry, Wine Australia's former UK GM for wine development.
