Angostura Holdings has appointed a former Diageo executive as its next CEO after the company's second leader in a row was placed on "administrative leave".

Peter Sandström started as Angostura CEO last month

Peter Sandström took the helm at the Trinidad & Tobago-based rum and bitters company last month. Sandström joined the company from Scotland's Harviestoun Brewery, having previously spent almost ten years with Edrington-Beam Suntory, also in the UK.

He also worked for Diageo for nearly six years, becoming brand & innovation director for the group's Global Travel Retail division in 2006.

Sandström's appointment comes a year after Angostura's previous CEO went on leave in November 2018. Genevieve Jodhan replaced Robert Wong in late-2016 after Wong had also "proceeded on administrative leave".

According to Caribbean Business Report last month, Jodhan stepped back while a financial audit was conducted into alleged breaches of Angostura's procurement policy. Jodhan subsequently resigned in April last year, to be replaced by operations manager Ian Forbes on an interim basis.

Coinciding with Sandström's recruitment was the announcement that Forbes will become group COO.

"The … board … welcomes Mr Peter Sandström as he joins the Angostura team in this exciting and innovative transformational journey," the company said. "Mr Sandström has an extensive and illustrious career in the beverage and luxury spirits sector spanning 30 years. His keen insight into the world of luxury spirits informs his creative strategies to motivate and inspire his teams to excel and prosper."
