UST Inc. (NYSE: UST) announced today the election of Theodor P. Baseler as executive vice president and chief operating officer of its subsidiary, International Wine & Spirits Ltd. (IWS), effective immediately. He will report to Vincent A. Gierer, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of UST Inc. Mr. Baseler previously served as senior vice president of IWS. In addition, Mr. Baseler has also been elected president of Stimson Lane Ltd., the operating subsidiary of IWS, where he previously served as executive vice president of sales and marketing.

Ted has played a vital role in the growth of our wine business, making it one of the top five super-premium wine producers in the United States. He is extremely capable, and in this broader role, will help us meet the challenges in the highly competitive wine business," said Mr. Gierer.

Baseler joined Stimson Lane Ltd. in 1984 as marketing director and has held various positions within the Company since then. Mr. Baseler is a founding director of the Wine Market Council and a member of the Washington Quality Alliance Committee. He has also served as a director of The Washington Wine Institute.

Prior to joining Stimson Lane, Mr. Baseler managed consumer goods accounts for the J. Walter Thompson and Ogilvy & Mather advertising agencies. He has a B.A. from Washington State University and a Master's degree from Northwestern University.
