Chivas Brothers is celebrating breaking half-a-million case sales of The Glenlivet single malt Scotch whisky.

The Scotch joins William Grant's Glenfiddich as only the second single malt to sell over 500,000 nine-litre cases in one year. The milestone equates to 6m bottles, Chivas said today (25 January).

The Glenlivet portfolio comprises a core range of 12-Year-Old, 15-Year-Old French Oak Reserve and 18-Year-Old as well as the specialist Nàdurra Cask Strength 16-Year-Old and 21-Year-Old Archive. The Glenlivet Cellar Collection offers seven releases and new expressions are expected to be introduced to the range in coming months.

The figures were released at the same time as Chivas' parent company, Pernod Ricard, posted a 9.7% lift in first-half sales. Turnover for the six months to 31 December came in at EUR3.5bn (US$4.5bn). Group managing director Pierre Pringuet noted that The Glenlivet 15-year-old saw sales rise by 20% in the six-month period.
