The Coca-Cola Co has opened a US$5m PET bottling line in Liberia.

The new line is part of the Liberia Coca-Cola Bottling Co’s plant in Monrovia. It is the company's first PET line in the country.

Coca-Cola said the development would "create more than 7,500 new indirect employment opportunities over the next five years throughout Coca-Cola’s locally-sourced supply chain of distributors, retailers and material suppliers".

Products to benefit from PET include Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and water. The new line will serve as a regional hub for neighbouring countries Sierra Leone and Guinea Conakry.

At the same time as opening the bottling line, Coca-Cola executive vice president Alex Cummings also launched community programmes funded by The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, including a science and technology school and five Water Health Centres.
